Veterans Retraining Assistance Program to help unemployed veterans

The Veterans Retraining Assistance Program provides a housing allowance of $1,473 for up to 12 months for unemployed veterans who are not eligible for other Veterans Administration education benefits.
To qualify, veterans must be between ages 35 and 60 and not already enrolled in a federal or state job training program. Funding is only available for training related to high-demand jobs, which are listed on the online application site at benefits.va.gov.

A wide range of FLCC degree programs apply, including accounting, biotechnology, business administration, computer science, culinary arts, environmental studies, horticulture, instrumentation and control technologies (advanced manufacturing), mechanical technology, nursing and paramedic.

Applications can only be filed online and must have an email address. They will be accepted through March 31, 2014. For help with the application, contact Michelle Coomber of the New York State Department of Labor in Geneva at 315-789-1771, Ext. 115.
