VetNet: A Place for Veterans and Military Spouses to Build Civilian Careers

As we continue to evolve the Hiring Our Heroes program, we've come to realize that it isn't more tools that are needed, but rather organizing the ones that already exist and making them easier to find. One of the biggest challenges facing the veteran and military spouse community today is the sheer volume of resources available to help them transition to civilian life. While this abundance is the measure of a grateful nation and a tribute to those who served, in the end, the most important result is individuals and families getting the help they need.

With this in mind, we've put the power of Google+ behind a single hub called VetNet. This week, we launched VetNet in partnership with two other founding organizations: the Institute for Veterans and Military Families at Syracuse University (IVMF) and Hire Heroes USA. In the long run, other organizations will be able to offer their services to the veteran community, all in the same easy-to-use place.

We see VetNet as a game-changer for the military community.  The amount of resources available for transitioning servicemembers can be overwhelming, and this brings it all together in one place. We are changing the approach so our nation's heroes can be better informed about the industries that are hiring and where the jobs are before they leave the military. There are a few million high-skilled career opportunities in America that aren't being filled because we lack a trained workforce. VetNet specifically provides talented veterans and transitioning servicemembers with the tools they need to connect with those good-paying jobs.

We hope all job-seeking members of the military community will give VetNet a try as part of their career search. Between the Fast Track map filled with tens of thousands of job opportunities in America's fastest-growing job markets, and the one-on-one connections that can be made with veteran leaders in their fields, I have no doubt you won't be disappointed.
