Officials with state-based nonprofit groups that provide shelter and other emergency services to at-risk military veterans say the $847,000 grant awarded them Tuesday by the Department of Veterans Affairs is a windfall that will provide tangible benefits soon.
“This really allows us to expand our program,” said Del Failing, executive director of People’s Place, a Milford-based aid provider whose Veterans Outreach program offers career and mental health counseling, transportation and other services to military veterans in the lower two-thirds of the state.
